Storm Damage & Insurance

What should I do right after a hail or wind storm?

First, stay off the roof — that's our job. Take photos of anything you can see from the ground: dented gutters, shingles in the yard, damaged window screens. If water is coming in, get it tarped fast (call us — we handle emergency tarping). Then schedule a free inspection. Hail damage is often invisible from the ground but still shortens your roof's life and can void manufacturer warranties if it goes undocumented.

Will my homeowners insurance cover the damage?

Most policies cover sudden storm damage — hail, wind, fallen limbs — but not gradual wear or deferred maintenance. The key is documentation. We photograph and document every bit of damage, put together a detailed estimate, and can meet your adjuster on the roof so nothing gets missed.

How fast do I need to file an insurance claim?

Sooner is always better. Most Texas policies give you a limited window to file after a storm — often around one year — and damage that sits gets worse and harder to attribute to the storm. If you even suspect damage, get a free inspection first so you know whether a claim is worth filing at all.

Can you tell if I have hail damage when I can't see anything wrong?

Yes. Hail bruises shingles — it knocks granules loose and fractures the mat underneath, which you can only see up close. That's exactly what our free inspections are for. We'll show you photos of what we find, and if there's nothing wrong, we'll tell you that too.

A door-knocker showed up after the storm. Should I sign with them?

Be careful. After big storms, out-of-town crews sweep through, collect insurance checks, do fast work, and disappear — leaving nobody to honor the warranty. Before signing anything, check that the company has a real local address, real reviews, and will still be here in five years. We're headquartered right here in College Station, and we're not going anywhere.

Repair or Replace?

How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?

A younger roof with isolated damage — a few missing shingles, one leaky flashing point — usually just needs a repair. Replacement makes more sense when damage is widespread, leaks keep coming back, or the roof is near the end of its life. We'll give you an honest read either way; we repair plenty of roofs we could have tried to sell replacements on.

What are the warning signs my roof is in trouble?

Watch for shingles that are curling, cracking, or missing; granules collecting in your gutters; water stains on ceilings or walls; daylight showing in the attic; and energy bills creeping up. Any one of these is worth a free inspection before it becomes a bigger problem.

How long does a roof last in Texas?

Asphalt shingle roofs typically last 15–25 years here — Texas heat and hail take more out of a roof than milder climates do. Metal roofs run 40–70 years. If your roof is past the 15-year mark, an annual inspection is cheap insurance.

Does a new roof actually add value to my home?

Yes. A new roof is consistently one of the better-returning exterior projects — it helps at resale, can lower insurance premiums (especially with impact-resistant shingles), and buyers don't have to negotiate around a tired roof. It also just protects everything else you own.

The Replacement Process

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most homes are done in one to two days. Larger homes, steep pitches, or metal and tile systems can run three to five. We don't tear off more than we can dry-in the same day, so your home is never left exposed overnight.

What's actually included in a replacement?

Full tear-off of the old roof, inspection of the decking underneath (we replace rotten wood, not roof over it), new underlayment, new flashing, proper ventilation, your new roofing material, and a full cleanup including a magnetic sweep for nails. You get the manufacturer's material warranty plus our workmanship warranty in writing.

Do I need to be home during the work?

No. Just move vehicles out of the driveway, secure pets inside, and take fragile items off walls (roofing vibrates the house a bit). We'll walk the finished roof with you when it's done — that final walkthrough is part of every job.

Will you protect my landscaping and property?

Yes. We tarp landscaping and pool areas, protect AC units, and stage tear-off debris so it goes straight into the trailer, not your flower beds. If we break it, we fix it — simple as that.

Cost & Financing

How much does a new roof cost in College Station?

It depends on the size of the roof, how steep it is, and the material you choose — which is why anyone quoting you a price over the phone is guessing. Our inspection and written estimate are free and no-obligation, so you'll know your exact number before deciding anything.

Why do roofing quotes vary so much between companies?

The cheapest quote usually cuts something you can't see: thinner underlayment, reused flashing, no ventilation work, thin insurance, or crews with no supervision. Compare what's included — tear-off, decking repair, flashing, warranty terms — not just the bottom line.

Do you offer financing?

Yes — we offer flexible financing options so a needed roof doesn't have to wait on a lump sum. Ask about current options when you schedule your free estimate at 979-217-2748.

Is the estimate really free? What's the catch?

Really free, no catch. We inspect the roof, document what we find with photos, and give you a written estimate. If your roof is fine, we'd rather tell you that and earn your call in five years than sell you something you don't need.

Materials & Options

Asphalt shingles or metal — which is right for me?

Asphalt is the value pick: lower upfront cost, solid 15–25 year life, wide color selection. Metal costs more upfront but lasts two to three times longer, sheds Texas sun and rain beautifully, and stands up better to hail. If you plan to stay in the home long-term, metal often wins the math; if not, quality asphalt is hard to beat.

Are impact-resistant shingles worth it in Texas?

Usually, yes. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles hold up dramatically better in hail, and many Texas insurers offer premium discounts for them — ask your agent. In a hail-prone area like the Brazos Valley, they often pay for their upcharge over the life of the roof.

What roof color is best for the Texas heat?

Lighter colors reflect more heat, and many shingle lines now offer "cool roof" granules in darker shades too. That said, attic ventilation and insulation matter more for your energy bill than shingle color — we check both on every inspection.

Do you do commercial roofs too?

Yes. We handle commercial installation, replacement, and repair — including flat and low-slope systems — for businesses across our service areas. Same in-house crews, same standards.

Maintenance & Inspections

How often should my roof be inspected?

Once a year, plus after any major hail or wind event. Ours are free, so there's no reason to skip it. Catching a lifted shingle or cracked pipe boot early is a small fix; finding it after a year of slow leaking is a drywall, insulation, and mold problem.

Do gutters really matter that much?

More than most people think. Failed gutters dump water against your fascia, siding, and foundation — and foundation problems make roof problems look cheap. We install and repair gutter systems as part of keeping the whole envelope of your home dry.

Can I pressure-wash my roof?

Please don't. Pressure washing strips the protective granules off asphalt shingles and can force water under them. If you've got algae streaks or debris, ask us about safe cleaning methods — and never let anyone walk your roof who isn't insured for it.

Why does attic ventilation matter so much here?

A poorly vented attic in Texas can hit 150°F+, which cooks your shingles from underneath, drives up cooling bills, and can void shingle warranties. Proper intake and exhaust ventilation is one of the highest-value fixes on older homes, and we evaluate it on every job.
